1. Activities of Mass Sports and Education Division of SPED

In order to promote mass sports movements, which were took part by the whole citizens of the entire nation,starting from 1998,November, December and January were marked as months for the mass sports movements, and on every Saturday’s morning sports activities were done. Billboards and posters were erected as the motivation for the mass sports movements months in those areas where there are densed populated. Furthermore, in the States and Divisions level and in the townships level,the most active prizes for first ,second and third were awarded. In addition, as for the motivation of the Mass Sports Movements short novels,articles , essays and photo contest were held annually .Also,Inter States and Divisions Fitness Competitions were held . In order to draw the interest of sport of the entire citizens a television programme “ Let’s do Sports for Health together ” is on the screen every morning , as well as combined physical fitness exercises programme is on the air through the radio every morning as National Fitness Programme . Furthermore ,news for sports round - up and “ Health and Fitness is our Goal ” programmes are also broadcasted from the Myanmar Broadcasting Station. In order to get the sports informations for the citizens, the Olympic journal and Ah-Kar Magazine ( Sports and Physical Education Magazine ) were published and seasonal sports training courses like monsoon, winter and summer courses were organised annually, in order to find out talented young and new generation athletes.

2. Activities of Institute of Sports and Physical Education of SPED

Institute of Sports and Physical Education was established on 27th July, 1992. ISPE is located in Kyaikkasan Sports Ground (Former Horse Race Course) in Tamway Township, Yangon Division and has (147) acre. Five objectives of ISPE are as follows : -

1. To turn out of experts in sporting techniques and coaches in adequate quantities for the enhancement of Myanmar Sports Standard.
2. To contribute to implementation of sports and physical education plans for the uplift of health and fitness of the entire nation.
3. To translate into action the aim of the nation, “ Myanmar Sports the World to Conquer ”.
4. To contribute to constant emergence of outstanding new generation athletes.
5. To conduct sport related research for achievement of progress in sports and physical education.

The courses conducted in the ISPE are as follows : -

(i) Sports Diploma Courses - (6) months course (Staff Officers)
(ii) Sports Coaching Courses - (1) month course (State / Divisions, Federations, Ministries,etc.)
(iii) Technical Organiser’s - (4) months course (SPED, Federations)
(iv) New generation athletes - (6) months courses training courses (Basic)
(v) New generation athletes training courses (Advanced) - (4) months courses
(vi) Referees and Umpires Courses (States/ Divisions, Federations) - (2) weeks courses
(vii) Integrated School for Sports and Education - (1) year to (6) years courses
(viii) Basic Education Physical Education Teachers’ Sports Coaching Courses - (8) weeks course


The Integrated School for Sports and Education was established on 1st August, 1997, in 1997-1998 academic year, with the guide lines and instructions given by Lt. General Khin Nyunt, Secretary (1), State Peace and Development Council and Chairman of the Myanmar National Olympic Council, at the MNOC meeting (1/97) held on, 13th February, 1997. At the ISSE, in 1997-98 academic year altogether (110) students for (10) sports disciplines, in 1998-1999 academic year altogether (133) students for (12)sports disciplines, in 1999-2000 academic year altogether (150) students for (12) sports disciplines, in 2000 -2001 academic year altogether (152) students for (12) sports disciplines were are attended and in 2001-2002 academic year altogether (152) students for (12) Sports Disciplines are attending . As for the achievements of the students in academic education, in 1997-1998 academic year, in the 10th standard examination out of (11) student, (4) students for (A) grade and (3) students for (B) grade, in 1998-1999 academic year out of (23) students, (7) students , in 1999- 2000 academic year , out of (54) students , (18) students, in 2000-2001 academic year , out of (53) students , (18) students, and in 2001-2002 academic year out of (37) students, (12) were passed.

3. Activities of Competition and Training Division of SPED

Competition and Training Division is taking responsibilities to organise sports competitions in order to promote the level of national sports standard. Seven objective of the National Sports Festival which is the biggest, most grand and highest level sports festival among the competitions held are as follow: -

1. To work as a national for the realization of the motto :
     Myanmar Sports - the World to conquer.
2. To bear in mind promotion of sports amounts to the defence of the country.
3. To enliven patriotism of national pride in conjunction with sports activities.
4. To nurture a new generation of world class athletes.
5. To organize the public to join in encouraging the promotion of Myanmar Sport.
6. To call for the active participation of responsible personal at all levels to train outstanding athletes employing modern techniques.
7. To vitalize Union spirit by creating a chance for up and coming athletes all over the country to get together and breed friendship among them.

Competition and Training Division is organising the various competitions such as, Myanmar Olympic Committee President’s Cup Competitions, National Championships, Inter States and Divisions Competitions, Sponsors Invitational Sports Competitions.

Futhermore, in the other major sports competitions which are held annually in the country, like, Inter Basic Education School Sports Competitions (Students Sports Festival), Chief of Staff Shield/Cup sports competitions, Myanmar Police Force Sports Competitions,Ministry of Sport is also taken part collaboratively and cooperatively with the organisations concerned. In order to prevent from the loss of the traditional sports and events, the competitions such as Myanmar Traditional Caneball (Chinlon), Htoke-Si-toe, Kiting, Fire ballooning, and Tug-of-war were organised with the close collaboration of respective National Sports Federations .In order to promote the level of Sport standards , many International Sports Events has been organised and many Myanmar Sports contingents were sent to take part in many nternational Sports Competitions.

4. Activities of Stadia / Gymnasia Division of SPED

The Stadia and Gymnasia constructed by the Stadia and Gymnasia Division in the States and Divisions are follows: (up to 31-10-2000)
