Myanmar will take part in the 14th Busan Asian Games, 2002

As a founding member of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), which was established in December 1982 as successor to the Asian Games Federation (AGF), established since 1951, Myanmar will take part in the 14th Busan Asian Games, 2002, which will be held from 29th September to 14th October, 2002, in Busan, Republic of Korea.

The first ever Asian Games was held since 1951, in New Delhi (India) with the purpose of developing intercultural knowledge and friendship within Asia, and all the member countries and regions affiliated to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) participated in this quadrennial multisports event.

In this forthcoming 14th Busan Asian Games, 2002, which will be held with the slogan "One Asia, Global Busan" altogether (38) sports disciplines will be included and (418) Gold medals will be awarded to the winners of the Games.

H.E. Brigadier General Thura Aye Myint, President of Myanmar Olympic Committee and Minister for Sport, Brigadier General Maung Nyo, Vice President of Myanmar Olympic Committee and Vice Adjutant General of Ministry of Defence, and U Thaung Htike, Secretary General of Myanmar Olympic Committee and Director General of Sports and Physical Education Department will attend the Games as the invited guests of Busan Asian Games Organising Committee (BAGOC).

Myanmar Sports Contingent, with the total member of (96) officials and athletes, lead by Chef - de - Mission U Than Zaw, Director, Sports and Physical Education Department will take part in this 14th Asian Games, for (13) sprots disciplines, such as Archery, Athletics, Billiard, Bodybuilding, Boxing, Judo, Rowing, Sepak Takraw, Swimming, Taekwondo, Weightlifting, Wushu and Yachting.

Myanmar Sports contingent, which bagged (1) Gold, (6) Silver and (4) Bronze medals in the last 13th Asian Games which was held in Bangkok, Thailand will participate in this 14th Quadrennial Multisports events with an Olympic true spirit with the expectation to receive better achievements than in the past Asian Games, but the main goal is to be cultivated and cemented the goodwill and friendship among Asian Countries through sports.
