FORMATION OF SPORTS ORGANIZATIONS IN MYANMAR

3. The main objectives of Myanmar sports are as follows:-

(a) to compete in the same level as other competitors in international sports and gain victories;

(b) to be healthy and strong of the entire nation.

4. In order to realize these objectives successfully, the highest sports organization in Myanmar, the Myanmar National Olympic Council has been formed since 19th April, 1993. Under the Myanmar National Olympic Council, the Myanmar Olympic Committee and the Myanmar Sports and Physical Education Committee are formed. The main duty of the Myanmar National Olympic Council is to take responsibilities in dealing with the policies on sports in Myanmar. The Myanmar Olympic Committee has to take the responsibility of implementing the tasks relating to objectives (1) and to make relations with international sports federations and organizations regarding sports activities and for the country to participate in international sports competitions. Under this committee a total of 36 Myanmar Sports Federatins are formed. The Myanmar Sports and Physical Education Committee is responsible to implement tasks relating to objective (2) and State/ Division/ District/ Township/ Village Tract-Wards Sports and Physical Education Committees have been formed systematically on a firm basis.

5. In order to carry out Sports activities in the country more effectively and efficiently, the Ministry of Sports was formed as a new Ministry and a Minister for Sports was appointed and assigned duties. In implementing the Sports activities, the Ministry of Sports has Laid down the following three Sports policies:-

(a) Myanmar Sports the world to conquer.

(b) The entire nation and the whole citizen to take part enthusiastically in the mass sports
activitie for the development of health and fitness of the entire nation. (Mass sport)

(c) The outstanding and brilliant athletes to nurture in order to promote the national
prestige among the nations through sport. (Excellent Sport)

6. In order to implement the above mentioned three sports policies, the Ministry of Sports has laid down (10) objectivies as mentioned below and carrying out sports activities accordingly with high intersity. If we study these objectives, it will be seen vividly how much priority is being given to promote sports among youths:-
